Warlords: Epic Conflict is a strategy army management game, where you launch your own forces from the left side to have them battle their way to the right side. Each level is pretty much the same, you either send your forces expressly against other forces, or one side has a castle to defend. The only differentiation comes from which units you can select, and they are unlocked as the game progresses.
In general, this style of game has never really appealed to me before. I generally like the side scrolling variety such as the Epic War series, but I'm still not a huge fan. I don't like sending swaths of soldiers to one side of the map, I just don't see the appeal.
Ah...Troop Management...That never gets old
Unfortunately, this was very much the same. There was no big hook, not game changer, you were just throwing soldier at enemy soldiers the entire time. There was some strategy to where to deploy them and you could save them up until they reached a holding cap, then you could release a swarm of them at the same time. But it always seemed to have pretty much the same effect.
So much blood...why can't we all just get along?
I didn't care for the deployment mechanics either. There were no defined lanes, so it was nearly impossible to line up your soldiers with enemy soldiers all the time. I understand that you don't want to silo the game too much, but you could have 10 lanes and it would give just as much variety on the field while making it possible to line up defenses or attacks.
And there are different races, but the basic fighting is all the same. There are different special abilities, but even then most of them do pretty much the same thing or have a similar effect. There's nothing keeping me playing. The upgrades are linear and fairly boring. And they don't move fast enough. Each level plays exactly the same, and there's little to no replay value. I like the tactical overworld map, but there wasn't really much to do, and I didn't see a reason to ever pick a level that wasn't the lowest difficulty available.
Would I recommend it? If you're a fan of the genre, it may be entertaining for you. But even then, I don't see much originality here. I'd probably recommend skipping it.
