Halo Bashing --- Ryviews Ryport

Halo 5 was recently given an official title (Halo 5: Guardians). That announcement was accompanied by a flurry of speculation and guesswork about what's to come in the latest Halo adventure. However, the news also came with large numbers of people complaining about how disappointing Halo 4 was, how the series has gone downhill ever since Halo 2, or how little they care about Halo 5. In fact, at the time of this writing, on Game Informer's reader poll for "Are You Excited For Halo 5: Guardians?", only 45.8% said "yes".

So what's with all the Halo bashing?

The Importance of Cloud Saving --- Ryviews Ryport

In the past, I was never much of an advocate for cloud storage. I didn't see the reason to centralize something if I could have it at my fingertips on my very own personal computer. The spectre of companies like Apple weighed heavily on my thought process, convincing me that online licenses and ownership was fraught with problems and disappearing content, so I wanted to stick with physical media and local storage.

I used to be pretty stupid.

Ryviews Deal Roundup - May 15th, 2014

Hi Everyone!

The Humble Bundle today is The Banner Saga, and the weekly Humble Bundle is Platforming (with the price levels at $6 and $10).

Major Nelson has some good Deals with Gold, including Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare (33% off) and Dead Island (50% off), and there's a Square Enix Sale, including Thief (25% off) and its add-ons (33% off), as well as Tomb Raider (55% off) and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII (50% off).

GameStop just announced a new $399 Xbox One, which just has the console, without any games and without the Kinect. It's not available until 6/9/2014, but it's definitely an interesting push to move more consoles.

iOSnoops today has Duke Nukem 3D down to $1.99 and several free games, including Toon Shooters and Tap the Frog: Doodle.

So, here's the very first Ryviews Deal Roundup for May 8th, 2014:

The Humble Bundle this week is Night Dive Studios, featuring Wizardry 6,7, and 8, as well as System Shock 2, Harvester, and the 7th Guest (among others). It's 9 games in total and the top tier requires $9.

There are quite a few games on sale on Xbox Live, including Fable Anniversary (25% off), Transformers: War of Cybertron (75% off), and Sacred Citadel (75% off).

And don't forget about this month's Xbox Live Games with Gold, which are Dust: An Elysian Tail (until May 15th) and Saints Row the Third (starting May 16th).

Over at iOSnoops, several apps are on sale, such as Rayman Jungle Run (now $0.99) and Solitaire 3D deluxe (now $1.99), and several apps have gone free, such as Draw Breaker and Stampede Run.

The Amazing Spider Man 2 --- Movie Ryview

Last night, I saw The Amazing Spider Man 2 at the Alamo Drafthouse in an early showing.

Read my ryview of Alamo Drafthouse here.

I will avoid spoilers, but obviously I will be discussing the movie so if you want to go in with a clean slate please exercise caution.

The Amazing Spider Man 2 had quite a bit of hype. It was supposed to a universe expanding, climactic experience where all Spider Man fans and comic book fans alike will marvel (heh...marvel) at the grandiose vision on the screen. Yesterday, I saw numerous negative reviews, some comparing it to the ill advised Batman and Robin, while others were more kind and simply said that the movie was mediocre but it had it's moments (a frequent positive that reviewers noted was the on screen chemistry between Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone). I thought the movie was somewhere in between the two visions, it was neither the best super hero movie I've ever seen, nor the worst.

Alamo Drafthouse --- Movie Theater Ryview

It's time for my first non-video game ryview!

This won't necessarily be a regular occurrence (as this is supposed to be a video game blog) but I saw The Amazing Spider Man 2 last night in an early showing at Alamo Drafthouse and I feel compelled to review both the theater and the movie.

Read my review of The Amazing Spider 2 here.

Alamo Drafthouse is an amazing fun movie experience. For the uninitiated, Alamo Drafthouse is a mixture between a movie theater and a bar and grill. You see the movie in comfort and style, sitting in comfortable chairs with a nice table and access to a full bar. You also have a full bar and grill style menu (which still has popcorn) so you can eat while you watch the movie.
