Raul Julia Rides Again - Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Xbox Live Freebie Ryview

Super Street Fighter IV Arcade, by Capcom.

Super Street Fighter IV Arcade is currently free until June 30th, 2014 as part of Xbox Live Games with Gold.

Street Fighter is a famous name in the world of Fighting games. I don't have a whole lot of experience with them (I was always more of a Mortal Kombat fan), but I'm familiar with a few of the characters and I like the style.

Super Street Fighter IV Arcade is very true to its title. It's set up like an arcade game, with lively visuals and music, including a satisfying character select screen that gives you the true arcade experience. And the roster is very impressive, I think it pretty much included everyone I'm aware of in the franchise, plus probably a dozen more that I personally have never heard of.

I don't mean to be rude, but seriously, who are these guys?

My main complaint with this game (and, to be honest, most fighting games) is that I'm very incapable of executing combos. There are obviously a few that take little to no skill (Blanka has an ability that requires the player to tap "x" repeatedly, that I can do), but for the most part the complicated sequence where you have to rotate your control stick around 270 degrees while tapping x,x,y,x and dancing on one foot naked are just too insane for me.

That doesn't mean I don't like a good fighting game, but that means I look for other nuances and perks that the game offers outside of combos. For the most part, Super Street Fighter IV Arcade (which I will call SSFFA because I'm getting frustrated with typing it out every time) doesn't have much else. It's a very basic fighting game. There aren't descructible environments. There aren't any places (that I recall) where you could knock a player out of the field, there's no nice crossover to another genre (I know it's not Street Fighter's thing, but I really loved playing as Yoda in Soul Calibur).

Being that this is free, I certainly still recommend that you download it. But at about 7 Gbs, SSFFA is a hefty download and it takes up a lot of precious space on the Xbox hard drive. So I'd say download it, do something else while you install it (it'll take awhile), then try it out for awhile. When you're bored with it, delete it from the hard drive and only reinstall it when you're getting that itch to beat up Jean-Claude Van Damme with Raul Julia.

Because I don't care how much muscle was involved, we all know who should win that fight.
