I'm going to be completely honest. I haven't played this game much yet. Maybe it was laziness, maybe it was the fact that I had vacation and recently purchased an Xbox One. Let's not quibble about excuses, the important thing is that I've only had a few short hours with this game, but in the spirit of reviewing it before it's no longer free, I thought I'd give an Initial Thoughts Ryview for it.
Dishonored is a stealth game where you're placing a disgraced bodyguard out to stop some bad dudes and a plague. I never really liked stealth games, but that changed once I played Batman: Arkham Asylum. And I can say that Dishonored seems like a pretty fun game so far.

Although there's a depressing lack of Batman.
The plot grabbed me right away. It's immersive, and the first person aspect helps keep the player engaged during some of the more sneaky moments. I'm also intrigued by the ability to choose whether you want to slaughter everyone like animals or take them down non-lethally. Both are perfectly acceptable options, and while I don't know how the ending differs based on your choices, I like that some level of player choice is factored in. That's not a requirement so it's a nice touch.
The controls and gameplay were fairly easy to learn and use. The game helps ease you into most of the moves and heavily relies on tips in key situations (at least on certain difficulty settings). At no point was I particularly confused about how to do a certain maneuver.
As I mentioned (albeit as a joke-y caption), I actually am a little less fulfilled by this game than I am by Arkham, simply because I like playing a bad ass like Batman. And I've played a bit of Assassin's Creed II, and he was a bad ass too. At least in the beginning, nothing grabbed me about this protagonist. Hopefully the game develops that further down the road.
I want him to have this much bad-ass.
So, in my opinion, the gameplay is good, and the storyline has the potential to keep you entertained as you play through the game, so I'd definitely recommend downloading this and, if you don't have time right now, get to it in the future. It looks like it'll be worth at least a few hours of solid entertainment.
I'm going to forgo the scorecard, it seems a little short-sighted of me to pass judgement on a game when I'm talking about Initial Thoughts.
