Bend it Like Korra - The Legend of Korra Xbox 360 Demo Ryview

The Legend of Korra Demo, by Nickelodeon.

The demo is free, and the full game costs $10.04.

I'd like to start off with a bit of full disclosure. I have not yet played this full game, so this is a ryview of the demo. It's free, and it's fun. I do plan on buying it and I plan on ryviewing the full game.

Now, about the game. It did what any demo should do. It made me want to buy the game.

You start out fighting a bunch of monsters and using your awesome Avatar powers to blast them with each element. It was a nice little mindless fun that taught you the moves. Then there was a pro-bending level, in which you have to completely knock out the entire enemy team in a few minutes. It took me a few tries and I was thrilled the entire time.

So, were the controls perfect? No. Was the cel shading impressive? Not really, but it wasn't anything to really scoff at either. It was pretty enough and the cutscene characters looked on model, even if they were a little low on the detail.

Not from the game, or the show. Just concept art. But it's bitchin'

The bending was fun, and the pro-bending offered an entirely different set of strategy and thinking. It was pretty awesome.

So why do I sound like I'm defending the game? Because that's what I'm doing.

There were several extremely harsh reviews out there. Like, seriously harsh. Like throwing down the Shamalyan Slams.

Take this quote from Gamespot:

The Avatar universe is rich with fantastical history and earnest storytelling, but those elements are nowhere to be found in The Legend of Korra (the game, and not the excellent animated program), which tries its best to boot M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender film out of its rightful position as "worst Avatar-related thing yet produced."

I mean, just wow. If I know anything about this game, I know it can't possibly be as bad as that movie.

So I played the demo, and I think you should too. It was a good brawler, it will be fun for any Avatar fans, and it's a solid fun 30 minutes. And I plan on buying the game because I'm big Korra fan and I like bending to throttle my enemies (as one does).

Suck on that, random henchman

Look forward to my full ryview sometime in the near-ish future (or sometime, who can tell?)!

Let me know what you think of the demo and/or the full game in the comments!

Until next time,

Ryan
